Student & Family Stories

Here are the experiences from the students and families I’ve supported, each one reflecting a unique journey, challenge, and outcome. Don’t just take my word for it - see what previous students and families have to say.

I wish there was an award for MVP of UK university application support, because my vote would go to Jo Clark! She understood exactly what my son was looking for and seemed to have a sixth sense about him, which meant that she came up with options for him that he would never have considered himself. But that was only the start. Jo provided a detailed, clear and concise to-do list that made sense out of what can feel like an overwhelming amount to do. What’s more, she went out of her way to connect with certain universities to get clarification and pass along relevant documents. Jo has a fee structure that allows you to get just what you need – at exceptional value. This is an eternally grateful parent.

Jo has been an incredible support throughout my UK college application journey. She always made herself available to be there for me, even during the most last-minute situations. When my mom and I decided — just 40 minutes before the deadline — to apply to more schools in London, she calmly and kindly walked us through every step with genuine care and reassurance. More than just helping with applications, she’s shown me so much kindness and made me feel truly seen and supported. I could tell she genuinely cares and is proud of me, and that meant the world. I wouldn’t have wanted to do this process with anyone else, and I’m forever grateful for her endless support and care, even after the process, to see how I’m thriving in college.

Jo was fantastic to work with. While we had experience with the US process, the UK process and the UCAS system was new to us. Jo worked with our son to finalize his course and university options; review his UCAS application and personal statement and gave great advice as to the substance of the statement since is quite different than the personal statements written for US schools. Jo even provided guidance to our son’s school counselor and teacher to complete their portions as they had never had to engage with the UCAS process. She was very accessible and made time to meet with our son when his scheduled permitted. Our son had his first unconditional offer within a week of submitting and four unconditionals within a month. I would highly recommend Jo who is extremely knowledgeable about the universities and courses that would be right for your student; gives great advice about the process; and is very easy to work with.

Navigating the UK university application process from the US would’ve been impossible without Jo’s help. After one meeting I felt that Jo was personally invested in my son’s future: answering emails and texts immediately with helpful (and calming) advice, reaching out personally to university admissions officers. Jo provides a bespoke, tailored-to-your-kid experience. Her insider knowledge of the UK systems is honestly priceless.

Jo was an absolute lifesaver as we navigated the different landscape and requirements of the UK university system. She was with us every step of the way. She forged a strong working relationship with our son and helped keep us all connected and on track. Her relationships with the various admissions offices were so valuable and she didn’t hesitate to reach out to them when we had questions. Jo went above and beyond to seek out a talented young graduate to help evaluate our son’s portfolio. Can’t say enough good things about our experience! We highly recommend Jo’s services!

Parent of student admitted to University College Dublin – BSc Sports Management

As a New York City parent exploring the world of UK and Irish universities, Jo was an invaluable guide and resource as we navigated the process. Her in-depth knowledge, her UK connections and her ever-present positivity made the whole journey actually fun and anxiety-free! Having gone through the US process three times before with my older children, this was definitely a change! I could not recommend Jo and her services more highly and am thankful for all she did for our family and particularly our son.

Parent of US high school junior: UK University Deep Dive Session

Wow, thank goodness I found Jo. Her UK university advice was invaluable. As US-based British parents, with children aspiring to study in the UK, it was difficult to know where to begin. Jo’s calm demeanor and insightful knowledge provided the direction and support needed, making the research and application process manageable. Thank you for the exceptional guidance you gave us.

Parent of student admitted to Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts – BA Popular Music

Jo Clark opened up a new world of university options for our family. In our first meeting she immediately connected with my daughter, really understanding her goals and who is as both a student and a person. Jo provided a comprehensive list of options in the UK with a focus on the arts. There were so many schools with music programs that were targeted to her specific interests, which had been challenging to find in the US. The costs were also far better and university is shorter in the UK — 3 years. Jo made applying very simple and straightforward and connected us to school representatives to learn more information as needed. I cannot recommend Jo more highly if you are at all curious about schools abroad. She is a huge support and a lovely person to work with.

Student admitted to the University of Durham – BA Classical Studies

I would HIGHLY recommend Ms Clark! Without her help I would not have been able to get into the 4 schools I did. She helped provide guidance in narrowing down the list of schools for the program which I was interested in. She provided helpful information to my counselor and teacher for what their recommendations should include. She was immensely insightful with reviewing my personal statement. She is very knowledgeable about the UCAS system and the schools within it. She made the process of applying VERY easy as she helped me step by step on each portion of the application including reviewing the entire application prior to submission. I would like to sincerely thank Mrs. Clark as without her help I would not have been able to get offers from 4 universities. I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking to apply to schools in the UK!

Student admitted to the University of St Andrews – BSc Biology

My high school doesn’t offer AP classes but Jo helped me better understand the UK system and recommended a list of amazing UK universities that did accept my qualifications. I ended up receiving offers from all of the UK universities I applied to! Jo made what seemed a daunting and difficult process so simple and saved me countless hours of scrolling and research.

Parent of student admitted to Abertay University – BSc Computer Games Technology

Jo was so helpful in guiding us through the entire UK university application process for our son. She really knows her stuff! Even though my husband and I were both educated in the UK, we’d lost touch with how the system works but Jo was there to support us every step of the way. She was thorough, well-organized, and brilliant at keeping everything on track. She listened to our objectives and delivered insightful, customized advice in a supportive and collaborative way. It was like having a friend holding our hands throughout the process; a friend who is expert in every detail! Do not hesitate to let Jo help you too — she’s the best!

Parent of applicant to University of Cambridge – LLB.

Jo has been truly amazing in taking my son’s convoluted personal statement for Cambridge and thoughtfully editing it to perfection detailing in every line better options, suggestions, & justifications of what works and why. She doesn’t write it for you she shows you the way to understand what you need to do and equips you with the knowledge to enhance your own words and ideas. Highly recommend Jo! She is a very kind and generous person and will go out of her way to help make the best statement that represents your child. Thank you Jo for your care and insight!

Student admitted to Glasgow School of Art – BA Fine Art

Hi Jo, I made my decision yesterday that I’m gonna go to Glasgow! It seems like a super great place—school and city wise. Thank you so much for all your help during this process. I couldn’t have done it without you!”

Parent of student admitted to King’s College London – International Foundation Program

If you need any UK university guidance, Jo’s thorough knowledge and care is all you need. She created a custom list and helped us through the entire application process. She also tirelessly answered our questions on practical things in the UK and university social life. If anything was unclear in the ever-changing landscape of admissions, Jo found the information needed via her contacts at the various universities. We are excited that my daughter is heading to King’s College in London this fall.”

Let’s Talk About Your Application

QUESTIONS? I’M HERE TO HELP

Have questions about applying to UK or European universities? You’re not alone. Below are answers to the questions families most often ask at the start of their journey.

Absolutely! UK and European degrees meet strict academic and quality standards and are fully recognized as equivalent to degrees earned in the United States.

In addition, UK bachelor’s degrees are awarded with honors, reflecting a high level of academic specialization and achievement, which can add further credibility with US employers and graduate schools.

Students who study abroad also gain a real advantage. The independence, resilience, and global perspective they develop are highly valued by US employers and graduate programs alike, helping them stand out in an increasingly competitive landscape.

For licensed professions such as medicine, law, and architecture, additional steps may be required to practice in the United States.

It’s rarely too early—or too late—to start thinking about UK or European university applications.

For most students, junior year is the sweet spot to begin more detailed planning, with the summer before senior year being the key time to actively prepare applications for fall submission. For those considering Oxford, Cambridge, or degree programs with specific high school class pre-requisites, starting in sophomore year can be advantageous.

On the earlier side, I regularly work with middle-school families during their high school selection process, as different academic systems can significantly impact future UK and European university options. Choosing the right high school curriculum from the outset can open more doors later.

At the other end, I also support students who decide to apply very late in the day. The good news is there are many fantastic options available at excellent universities even in August–just a few weeks before the degree programs start in mid-September.

Whether you’re planning well in advance or just beginning to explore, a conversation can help bring clarity and direction. You’re very welcome to schedule a chat, and we can map out a plan that feels manageable and right for you.

A UK or European application essay is a very different piece of writing.

Rather than a personal narrative, it is an academic statement focused on your chosen future major(s). Universities want to see clear evidence of your academic background and interest in this subject and proof that you are ready to study this in depth for the duration of your degree studies.

This is where many US students go wrong. A Common App essay, no matter how strong, is not designed for this format.

I work closely with you to build a thoughtful, degree-focused statement from the ground up, one that reflects your academic interests, highlights relevant super-curricular exploration, and speaks directly to what UK and European universities are looking for.

(And, the good news is there is usually only one essay required! The same personal statement is sent to all your UK university choices and this can often be adapted for Irish and other European applications as well. There are no supplemental questions, just one essay and done!)

UK and European admissions focus almost entirely on academic fit. They want to know that you’re prepared for and genuinely interested in the subject you’re applying for. A perfect GPA isn’t usually essential; because degrees are highly subject-focused, universities are mainly looking for strong grades in the high school courses most relevant to your chosen degree.

Leadership roles, general extracurriculars and “well-roundedness” are generally not deciding factors unless they directly support your academic interest.

I help you highlight the right elements so your application speaks clearly to what admissions teams value most.

Entry requirements are clearly listed on each university’s website and vary by both degree major and institution.

APs or the IB Diploma offer the most flexibility, but many UK and European universities will also consider advanced high school classes, college credit, SAT or ACT scores, and overall GPA.

What matters most is strong performance in high school classes related to your intended degree program, rather than a perfect transcript.
